Fierce storms from Tuesday leave Sonora, Ky. with damage

Residents in Sonora assess damage after severe weather moves through Tuesday night.

SONORA, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Sonora, Ky., was one of the hardest-hit neighborhoods affected by Tuesday night's storms.

Many of the barns in the community are gone and the wind was so fierce, that in an area, it uprooted trees and sent wood flying through homes.

"We got the alert saying to go to the basement and it was just horrendous...We still haven't seen everything,” Suzi Overstreet, a Sonora resident, said.

Overstreet was one of dozens of residents around Sonora who woke up to the damage of mangled steel wrapped around poles, wires down, porches detached from home and barns destroyed.

“We haven't had power since last night,” Overstreet said.

It was her first glimpse of what Tuesday's storms left behind.

"You can see some cows are out here. Not sure where all the other animals are,” Overstreet said.

The road littered with debris. Most of the homes were spared.

"It's just blown everywhere. Every barn from here to there, about four miles, is gone. It's all down,” Overstreet said.

Hardin County Emergency Services said one person had minor injuries after his vehicle was hit by debris during the storm. They said the damage includes trees down power lines and rural structures like barns and sheds. No homes were impacted that they know of as of Wednesday morning.
