2nd Street Bridge repairs begin Wednesday; will convert to southbound lanes until mid-April

Beginning 9 a.m. Wednesday, the bridge will close to traffic and reopen for rush hour to southbound traffic only from Indiana to Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Drivers who frequent Louisville and southern Indiana get ready for more traffic changes as the Clark Memorial Bridge (2nd Street) is expected to undergo repairs for the next month.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said temporary changes to bridge traffic will take effect on Wednesday as they make repairs to the railing and sidewalk after it was damaged due to an early March crash involving a semitruck.

The 95-year-old bridge will be closed in both directions to all traffic at 9 a.m. to allow crews to repaint travel lanes.

It will open later in the afternoon for southbound traffic from Indiana to Louisville. Motorists needing to travel northbound will have to use either the Sherman Minton Bridge (I-64 West) or the Lincoln Bridge (I-65 North).

The bridge will also be closed to pedestrians.

KYTC believes repairs should be completed by mid-April. They don’t believe any of the work will interfere with Thunder Over Louisville, which normally closes three days for the event.
