Man dies in hospital after Shively house fire

Firefighters put out a fire at a home in the 4100 block of Candor Avenue in Shively.

SHIVELY, Ky. — One person died in the hospital after a fire at a home in Shively.

Crews from Shively Fire and the Louisville Fire Department responded to the 4100 block of Candor Avenue around 11:20 a.m. Monday.

Officials said crews had to force open the door and saw the fire coming from inside of the home’s kitchen.

Norman Thomas, Sr., 84, was removed from the home and taken to the hospital with “extensive injuries." He died in the hospital shortly after his arrival.

No one else was believed to be inside the home.

It took crews about 10 minutes to get the fire under control.

No other injuries were reported.
