14-year-old with cerebral palsy killed in Shelbyville

Officials say one of the victims is Aurelia Castillo, 14, found shot in the back of the head.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Police are investigating after two people were found dead inside a Shelbyville home on the 500 block of Hunting Hills Drive.

Officials say one of the victims is Aurelia Castillo, 14, found shot in the back of the head.

The family told WHAS 11 News she was confined to a wheelchair and had cerebral palsy.

Police said there was another woman, also dead inside the home. The family said that was Castillo’s grandmother.

The family believes the grandmother shot Castillo and then herself.

“I don't know what happened yesterday, but we're all just heartbroken,” explained Adam Fowler, Aurelia’s uncle.

Fowler told WHAS 11 News that he's lost his niece and his mother. He said his niece was having seizures and that her health was deteriorating. He said his mother retired so she could take care of the girl and believes his mother just couldn't bear to watch her suffer anymore.

“My mother spent her entire life helping underprivileged children, working for the State of Kentucky. Then she spent the last 14 years taking care of my niece, daily, who is severely handicapped with cerebral palsy.”

Police released a statement and said the incident is being investigated as a domestic matter and they're not looking for any suspects.
