Grayson County deputy helps save man from burning car

"Had Dpty. Lane arrived or hesitated a couple of minutes later than what he did, the next car arriving on scene would probably have been the County Coroner."

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Grayson County deputy helped pull a man from a burning car late Tuesday night.

According to authorities, deputies were called to the intersection of Shrewsbury Road and Schoolhouse Road on reports of a car on fire just before midnight.

That's just outside of Leitchfield.

When they arrived, Dpty. Thomas Lane found the burning car, and learned from others at the scene that there was someone still inside the car. He then ran to the car with a knife in hand, ready to cut the seatbelt in case the driver was trapped.

Investigators said when Lane saw through the open door, the driver appeared "dazed" and stayed in the car until Lane and another person pulled him from the vehicle.
