LOUISIVLLE (WHAS11) – Louisville-based non-profit "Supplies Overseas" is donating more than 1,000 pounds of medical supplies to JCPS for their local science program.

The organization takes the supplies and equipment that hospitals in our region normally throw out and distributes them to communities that need them.

If there's nowhere nearby that needs the medical supplies at the time they build hospitals and clinics overseas.

JCPS is one of the places that commonly gets donations from "Supplies Overseas.” They then use those materials to create a hands-on science program for their students.

"Teachers don't have a lot of money. They give us a plethora of materials, so we can focus our funding somewhere else,” Michelle Tedford, a JCPS teacher, said.

JCPS said they get things like Petri dishes, slides, beakers, and even hospital dishpans.
