LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) A 39-year-old woman, Matu Perry, is accused of stealing from a grocery store on West Broadway Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Police said they were called to the grocery store because of a woman causing disruption and cussing at employees after she stole an apple and two packages of applesauce.

According to the police report, when the officer arrived at the scene Perry was being escorted out of the store and when the officer asked what the problem was Perry became belligerent.

According to police Perry said she wasn't doing anything and the officer didn't have the right to stop her and ask questions.

Perry did admit she ate an apple without paying for it and with further questioning produced two packages of applesauce, according to the police report. Perry said, according to police, 'Here you can have these back. You can't arrest me since I'm giving them back.'

Police said Perry had already passed the point of sale and the packages of applesauce were in her backpack.

LMPD said Perry was scaring customers, causing public alarm and extremely belligerent. When one officer placed Perry in handcuffs and another was searching Perry's backpack, she reached for an officer's holster attempting to disarm the officer.

Matu Perry is charged with disarming a police officer, disorderly conduct in the second degree and theft by unlawful taking.
