KSP: 'Chicken-fighting' event in Casey County ends with 14 charged with animal cruelty

Police said an organized chicken-fighting event took place in Casey County ended with the arrest of two men and 12 others charged on Sunday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky State Police have charged more than a dozen people they said were involved in a “chicken-fighting” event in Casey County.

KSP said they received a call from someone on Sunday about an organized chicken-fight happening at a home on KY 837 in the Bethelridge community.

When troopers arrived at the residence, they spoke with several people who were on the property. They noticed a caged area with seats around it for spectators that also included a place for concessions.

KSP also confirmed several injured chickens were nearby.

Police took 59-year-old Leo Harris and 39-year-old Christopher Harris into custody on second degree animal cruelty charges. It’s unclear if they were the owners of the property where the incident took place.

Both men were booked at the Casey County Detention Center awaiting arraignment.

Twelve others were charged and cited to court on second degree cruelty to animals:

  • Steven Wesley, age 35 of Science Hill
  • Tiffany Robinson, age 35 of Liberty
  • Tyler Gillilan, age 22 of Eubank
  • James Croucher, age 38 of Mount Vernon
  • Brandon Mounce, age 39 of Lancaster
  • Randall Emerson, age 49 of Bethelridge
  • Kaleb Chansler, age 33 of Middleburg
  • Ronald Sharp, age 47 of Russell Springs
  • Dormas Bullock, age 72 of Eubank
  • Jeffrey Owens, age 53 of Stanford
  • David Bradshaw, age 65 of Bethelridge
  • Shawn Harris, age 35 of Russell Springs

KSP said the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
