'It took me about 2 months total': Louisville student wins Kentucky Derby Museum art contest

An Atherton High School student won the "Horsing Around with Art" contest, beating over 250 entries.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville student is the grand prize winner of the Kentucky Derby Museum's "Horsing Around with Art" contest for the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby.

Kentucky Derby Museum leaders surprised Nadine Seckman at Atherton High School Tuesday morning with a blue ribbon and a dozen red roses.

Seckman's artwork won out of 258 total entries. As well as the title, she has also won a trip to Churchill Downs to experience a spring race.

"My art teacher came up to me and she said that she knows I love horses so she let me work on this instead of the project instead of what everyone else was working on and so it took me about 2 months in total," Seckman said.

Seckman's artwork will be on display at the Kentucky Derby Museum for the rest of the year.

Atherton High School's art department also received a $500 prize to spend on art supplies.
