LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Family members have identified the child who was shot to death Saturday night as 8-year-old Andre Lamont O'Neal Junior.

Detectives are releasing few details at this time, but community activist Christopher 2X held a news conference this afternoon, speaking on behalf of the family.

The family said Andre was at a baby sitter's home on N 34th in Shawnee when the shooting stemmed from an argument. The boy was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital where he died from his injuries.

"Nobody has reached out to first responders, and she called them so we don't know how much of a time lapse. The family doesn't know how much of a time lapse had occurred, and she did witness a lot of blood being lost by the child on scene," said Christopher 2X.

Witnesses said that the child was not taken to the hospital by an ambulance, and the parents were not notified until later.

"From the time he was transported from North 34th street into Kosair children's hospital who knows how much blood he lost," said Christopher 2X.

Detectives have yet to release all the circumstances around Andre's death, leaving his parents yearning for answers to what happened surrounding the last few minutes of their son's life.
