'His positivity and zest for life are contagious' | Louisville veteran celebrates 101st birthday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Grand Senior Living celebrated a huge milestone for one of their residents. 

Joe Troje turned 101 years old. 

Joe was born on March 29, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a former member of the U.S. Air Force and has a passion for golf, tennis, and playing the accordion, according to a news release. His professional career was centered around sales and management. 

The senior center said Joe and his wife, Dot, have been married since October 17, 1953. According to Dot, the couple met while they were both working at the Boxboard in Louisville. Dot was part of the typing pool, while Joe was in the management group.

They have four children together: Joseph, Barbara, Suzanne and Frances.

Joe's 101st birthday celebration highlighted the bonds he created within the community. 

"Surrounded by love from friends, family, and staff, Joe marked this incredible milestone with a lively party filled with delicious food, engaging activities, and heartfelt reminiscing," Kelsey Hill, executive director, said. "The celebration created cherished memories for all in attendance, highlighting the warm and vibrant spirit of the community."

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg even honored Joe with a signed certificate of honor. 

"Joe is an inspiration to all of us at The Grand," Hill said. "His positivity and zest for life are contagious, and we were immensely blessed to celebrate his 101st birthday."
