‘Cadbury Crème’ is a LMAS dog looking for a family of his own

This week’s WHAS11 Shelter Star is a 2-year-old mix who loves people, kids and dogs of all sizes.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — At  LouisvilleMetro Animal Services (LMAS), hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats are desperately waiting for their forever family. The shelter is overcrowded, and when a dog stays for too long, tough decisions have to be made. Still, staff believe there is a family for every animal, they just need to find them.

One of the dogs most at risk right now is a 2-year-old mix named Cadbury Crème who loves people, dogs and children.

"He's very sweet. He lives for a belly rub. I think he would be great for either type of lifestyle -- or one in between. He can go on walks. He's excited. He enjoys activity. But I also feel like he would live for the chance to relax in a home, on the couch and enjoy a nice movie with you," Kristin Mueller, LMAS volunteer coordinator, said.

He finds his happy place running in a yard or laying with people. Any kind of fun or affection will make this dog a happy one.

“He's excited. He's exuberant. He loves people and other dogs. He's done well with kids. He's just overall a very nice dog to be around," Mueller said.

Cadbury Crème loves affection, recognizes basic commands and does great with other dogs all of sizes.

He has a moderate energy level, making him a great candidate for any kind of home. At LMAS, this pup is a staff favorite with his sweet demeanor shining every time he’s out to play.

"Just seeing the good dog that he is outside of his kennel, and how bad he wants to be with people,” Mueller said it would make her day for him to find a real home of his home.

You can meet Cadbury Crème any day of the week at LMAS Animal House on Newburg Road. They are open from noon until 6 p.m.

If your home is already full of furry friends, here's three things you can do to help combat overcrowding at the shelter:

  1. Make sure your pet's microchip information and collar is up to date.

  1. Keep cats inside and keep dogs on a leash or within a secure fenced in area.

  1. Spay and neuter your pets.

Shay McAlister will be introducing you to a new dog every week in our WHAS Shelter Stars series. You can  watch on WHAS11 at 4 p.m. every Thursday.
