LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – We haven’t heard much from Bryson Tiller lately outside of music but the reclusive singer says his latest effort didn’t rise to the expectations due to depression.

Tiller admitted in a post that he’d recently battled depression while working on his sophomore effort, True to Self.

The Louisville native and R&B star took to Twitter Monday to respond to a fan after they wrote, “Tiller’s last album was good & y’all got him depressed smh”.

Writing back, he told the fan that he was depressed before he made the album and it was evident in the music and believes it didn’t do well because of it.

However, he said his depression ended in 2017 and he’s been working hard since.

"True to Self" debuted on the Billboard 200 charts last May at No. 1 selling 107,000 units.

Tiller did see recent success as a feature on the Top 5 single “Wild Thoughts” with DJ Khaled and Rihanna and also a duet with Jazmine Sullivan called Insecure, the title track from the hit HBO show’s second season soundtrack.

He also made local headlines when he partnered with Nike to refurbish a basketball court renamed in his honor at Wyandotte Park in South Louisville last June.

Whether if new music is on the horizon, Tiller says to “stay tuned”.
