Emma Stone Reacts to Fans Thinking She Called Jimmy Kimmel a 'Prick' After His Joke at the 2024 Oscars

Emma Stone Reacts to Fans Thinking She Called Jimmy Kimmel a 'Prick' After His Joke at the 2024 Oscars

She's played Cruella, but in real life, Emma Stone is far from cruel.

Case in point: The award-winning actress has set the record straight after some thought she reacted to a joke from Jimmy Kimmel during the Oscars by calling him a prick.

"No! I didn’t call him a prick," she tells The Hollywood Reporter. "...What did I say? I didn't call him a prick. I wasn't upset with him at all. I'll have to look that up."

For those who did not see the moment unfold live, host Kimmel poked fun at Stone's Oscar-nominated film, Poor Things, over its depictions of sex and nudity. "Those were all the parts of Poor Things we're allowed to show on TV," he said after scenes from the film were played during the ceremony, per Entertainment Weekly

Cameras then turned to Stone sitting in the audience and caught her say something to her husband, Dave McCary, spurring speculation that she had muttered the word "prick."

However, in addition to Stone's denial, her The Curse co-star, Nathan Fielder, also came to the actress' defense, telling THR she's "always down for a joke."

As Stone put it, "I'm near-unoffendable."

This is not the first time the Academy Award winner has had to deal with her awards show actions sparking headlines. After her longtime friend, Taylor Swift, applauded Stone as the latter won at the 2024 Golden Globes in January, the actress was asked in the backstage press room about her friend's obvious support of her. "What an a**hole, am I right?," Stone jokingly quipped.

However, Stone later told Variety"I definitely won't make a joke like that again because I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context." Added the star, pointing to herself, "What a dope."

Meanwhile, Kimmel can rest easy knowing he has not offended Stone nor another winner of the night, Robert Downey Jr., who was the target of some of the host's other zingers referencing his past drug addiction.

"I don't care," Downey told Esquire"I love Jimmy Kimmel. I think he's a national treasure."
