Louisville SDF prepares for more holiday travelers this Thanksgiving

AAA projects 4.5 million people will be flying this holiday season, so don't be caught off guard by the long lines! Here's how you can reduce the stress.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With Thanksgiving just days away, the Louisville Muhammed Ali International Airport is preparing to become one of the busiest places in the Metro.

On Tuesday, airport leaders talked about all of the work being done to ensure the holiday rush moves smoothly.

AAA projects more than 54 million people will be traveling for Thanksgiving weekend, with 49 million of them driving. The other 5 million will be flying across the country.

SDF recommends that passengers arrive roughly two-and-a-half hours early to check in and get through security so you don't miss your flight. Officials said that four baggage claim belts have reopened after being shut down for several weeks.

This is all good news as SDF said they are seeing the highest level of passenger traffic that they have ever seen.

"It's important if you are travelling for Thanksgiving for Louisville to know that we are expecting a high number of people coming through," airport spokesperson Natalie Chaudoin said. "Be a little extra patient, don't be surprised if you see those folks, morning departures tend to be our busiest time of day, especially before that 8 or 9 a.m. hour, and any time in the 5, 6, 7 p.m. range."

If you are driving, you're in luck! Gas prices have dropped nearly 30 to 40 cents less than they were this time last year.
