Proffitt Report | Kentucky needs to reopen, but when and how?

We need to reopen our state, but when and how we do it is the emotional debate so many of us are having right now.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — WHAS11 Anchor Doug Proffitt shares his commentary on coronavirus in Louisville:

We need to reopen our state, but when and how we do it is the emotional debate so many of us are having right now.

There is one huge point of stress that could be removed. That's the very real mess of our Kentucky unemployment system, asking people to be patient until the surge goes away requires money to buy food.

Beating coronavirus is going to take time but fixing our state's frustrating call system of no answers or getting hung up on could have happened weeks ago.

You can't ask people to sit tight if they are suffering. It's already a frightening time.

If you can't depend on the safety net, you'd also be pushing for what you had a month ago before the shutdown.

It should be no surprise that Kentucky’s governor is not going to be fast out of the gate on the reopening. He was one of the first in the country to shut things down and we’re doing better than most.

So, we finally have a sketch of our lives to come. But the next question is this - even if your favorite restaurant or sporting event returns, will you rush to go back?
