SCOTT CO., Ind. (WHAS11) -- A male juvenile was arrested on five counts of fraud and escape from lawful detention in Clark County, Ind. on May 7. He is accused of asking for money for several high school athletic programs over multiple weeks.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, a male juvenile was going door to door to Scott County residences and stated he played for various high school athletic programs. He then solicited money for fundraising organizations. The juvenile was doing this for several weeks.

The juvenile arrived at a residence on May 7 that the Scott County Assistant Jail Commander, Johnnie Coomer, was visiting. When the juvenile could not give details to the fundraising organization, Coomer became suspicious, according to the sheriff’s department. Coomer identified himself and his place of employment then confronted the juvenile on his criminal activities.

Deputies arrived at the residence. The juvenile admitted to soliciting money from other residents, the sheriff’s department states.

The juvenile was also on probation out of Clark County and on home incarceration, upon further investigation by the sheriff’s department. The juvenile said he removed his home incarceration bracelet so he could not be detected and would petition money from Scott County residents.

The juvenile was arrested and taken to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.

The sheriff’s department is urging residents if they are concerned they have been a victim of a similar crime, to contact their office at (812)752-8400.
