Eyes are beginning to turn to plans for Thanksgiving and our weather pattern is looking pretty active as we approach the kick-off of the holiday season.
Other than a little rain Wednesday, much of the work week will stay quiet. It's Friday night into Saturday when some big weather changes are expected.
We will be watching a developing system over the Plains Friday, supported by a strong contrast in temperatures. In fact we will go from 60s Friday night to 30s by Sunday morning.
Breezy rain showers are expected as the sharp cold front moves through early Saturday.
As the cold front moves in Friday night or early Saturday, wind energy will become very strong across the area as well. As is common this time of year, there is not a lot of surface instability to support widespread severe weather. However, it will not take much instability to bring down some of these strong wind gusts early Saturday morning due to the strength of the front and how strong the winds will be just off the ground.
At this time it appears wind gusts over 50 mph are attainable as the front passes. We will keep an eye on it for you!
Once the cold front passes, temperatures will crash. One of our more reliable models does show a fairly cold pattern for much of Thanksgiving week. It averages our temperatures at 10 degrees below normal for late November.
