LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Mayor Greg Fischer kicked off his annual Give-A-Day week of service with an event designed to provide local children with beds.
The partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools aims to build 110 beds.
Sleep Outfitters, Build-a-Bed and Kosair Charities collaborated to raise funds for the build.
Volunteers say there are thousands of students who could use a comfortable place to lay their head.
“The need is enormous for our city. Any given time we have about 7,000 of our students who don’t have a bed and/or are homeless,” Mayor Fischer said.
Give-A-Day week of service ends on April 23.
