LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two Louisville Metro Department of Corrections employees have been suspended after being charged with official misconduct.

A spokesperson for Metro Corrections said Tiffany Welch formed a personal relationship with an inmate, then used her position to provide favors to them. She is accused of putting other inmates in jeopardy by failing to report events, violating the prison rape elimination act.

Sharonda Simmons, a corrections civilian supervisor, is facing charges for allegedly trying to speed up that inmate's release, violating the department's code of ethics and conduct.

The LMPD public integrity unit investigated the case and then passed it along to the Jefferson County Attorney's Office.

Both employees are suspended without pay.
