Pearls and Pumps benefits cancer patients

While the focus is on the fashion, the proceeds go to supporting cancer care at Baptist Health Louisville and La Grange.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Cancer survivors and other participants received the chance to show off this year’s Derby Fashions during the 7th annual Pearls and Pumps: Rock the Raceway fashion show at Churchill Downs.

It’s the first year the track hosted the event.

While the focus is on the fashion, the proceeds go to supporting cancer care at Baptist Health Louisville and La Grange.

Cancer survivors also shared their stories of recovery as they walk the catwalk.

Various vendors also got the chance to show off their latest designs.

Organizers say funding the treatment of cancer patients is, unfortunately, a cost that is not going away.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t beat cancer yet. There are still cancer patients coming in every day to our facility that need the support that we have. They need transportation. They need help with their cancer care and we are there for them. And until we beat it, we’ll keep doing it,” Julie Torzewski of the Baptist Health Foundation said.

WHAS11 is a proud sponsor of Pearls and Pumps.

Donations also help provide women with customized wigs, hope scarves and blankets.
