JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Two women are on a mission to restore a historic home in Jeffersonville that dates to the 1800s.

The home, which is one of the oldest in Jeffersonville, has survived five major floods and was recently used as section eight housing.

According to Jeanne Burke, President of Board of Directors of the Clark County Museum, and Nancy Hemphill, a volunteer on the board, the home beloved to the Howards family who came to the area from Vermont in the early 1800s. The family owned a brick making business.

The home has changed hands multiple times since the Howards left it in the early 1900s.

Burke and Hemphill want the home added to the Lincoln Heritage Trail, but said it is difficult to get the home recognized since it is not in Kentucky. They started a letter writing campaign to see if Lincoln Heritage will change their minds.

According to Burke and Hemphill, it will cost $300K to renovate the home before it’s a functioning museum.
