KSP: Do not call 911, local police to ask about road conditions

Trooper Purdy with Kentucky State Police said his Post has been overwhelmed with calls about road and traffic conditions.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As winter weather hits our area, it's okay to want to know current road conditions. However, it's not okay to call 911 or local police to ask them about it.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Robert Purdy, who works for KSP Post 7, asked people on Twitter to stop calling police to ask about traffic conditions.

"Our personnel are overwhelmed with incoming calls," Trooper Purdy said.

Instead of contacting police, there are plenty of ways to check current road conditions if you're planning to leave the house Monday.

Trooper Purdy said people can check real-time traffic information statewide through an interactive map on the GoKY website.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) retweeted Trooper Purdy's post, urging people to "save 911 for emergencies." You can follow your local KYTC District on social media to stay up-to-date with their weather updates.

Several inches of snow is expected to fall over Kentucky during the day Monday and overnight into Tuesday. Crews have been working since Sunday night to make sure roads are safe to travel, but officials have urged people to stay home if they can.
