LOUISVILLE, Ky. — What is typically the hottest part of the year is almost here! From July 3rd through August 19th our average high temperature is 89°. So, climatologically, we're heading into those hot, hazy, and humid dog days of summer.
And, right on time, we have a long stretch of scorching high temperatures in the 90s for at least the first week and a half of July.
The summertime heat, sunshine, and light winds is a good combination to build elevated Ozone levels. So, tomorrow (Thursday, July 2nd) we have an Orange Air Quality Alert for Sensitive Groups. If you have asthma or breathing issues, you may want to stay indoors during the afternoon hours.
While the heat gets higher through the summer, we'll actually start having earlier sunsets. July 2nd is our last latest sunset of the year at 9:10 pm. By the end of July our sunsets are before 9:00 pm. By the end of September, before 7:30 pm!
Enjoy this July 4th holiday weekend, but find some ways to keep cool!
...and, apply plenty of sunscreen! Our UV Index will stay at a very high level, with a burn time within 15-20 minutes.
Thankfully, our pollen levels should stay pretty low for now, until ragweed season later this summer.
Again, with the jet stream traveling north, and taking a summer vacation in Canada, expect a long-lasting hot pattern!
