Here's a look the almanac for May, and what to expect for June

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — MAY STATS:

Overall, the month of May ended up with below normal temperatures, and above normal precipitation.   This May had an especially chilly start, with a late spring freeze, which killed off many local gardens and plants.  

The hottest temperature was 90° on May 23rd and 25th, and the coldest temperature was 34° on May 9th.  

Louisville typically has it's first 90° high temperature around June 1st.  

JUNE:

Speaking of June, we have a lot to look forward to, especially if you like warm weather.  June 1st is not only the beginning of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, but also marks the beginning of Meteorological Summer (the months of June, July,  August - for more simple record keeping)

Summer officially begins at 5:43 pm on June 20th, which is the longest day of the year.  On June 20th we will have 14 hours, 49 minutes, and 49 seconds of daylight.  

On June 1st the sunrise is at 6:21 am, with a 9:01 pm sunset.  Our latest sunsets of the year occur during the last half of June.  

This June will start off with a warming trend with highs around 85° to 90° from June 2nd through at least June 11th.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in June was 105° in 2012.  The average high temperature is 81° on June 1st, warming to an average of 88° by the end of the month.  

June has an average of 3.79" of rainfall.  

June's full moon is called the "Strawberry Moon" occurring at 3:12 pm on June 5th.
