LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Heads up to all Kentuckiana drivers!
According to officials, the Sherman Minton Bridge will experience three different directional closures starting in mid-May and ending at the beginning of June.
"The full directional closures will allow crews to work safely as they implement the traffic shift for Phase 3 and begin demolition activities," they said.
Starting Friday, May 19, I-64 eastbound will be closed around 10 p.m. and will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, May 22.
The I-64 eastbound entrance ramp from New Albany will also be closed.
The suggested alternate route is I-265 and I-65. They added local access "will be maintained for I-64 eastbound traffic past the I-64/I265 Interchange."
The second directional closure will be for I-64 westbound, starting May 23 around 5 a.m. and going until 5 a.m. May 26.
The final directional closure will also be for I-64 westbound too. The interstate will be closed for six days starting around 8 p.m. May 30 and will reopen at 8 p.m. June 5.
While I-64 westbound will be closed, they warned the I-264 ramp to I-64 west will be closed too.
The suggested alternate route is I-65 and I-265.
Officials added Memorial Day weekend will not be impacted by all the construction. All of these closures are weather permitting too.
