LMPD: Man dies after vehicle crashes into JCPS bus for unknown reason

Police said those who were on the school bus -- the bus driver, a bus monitor and a child -- were sent to local hospitals for minor injuries.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police is investigating a fatal collision involving a school bus on Friday afternoon.

According to LMPD's preliminary report, the Jefferson County Public School bus was traveling westbound on Mudd Lane when a passenger vehicle turned from the eastbound lane and hit the bus head-on.

Police are not sure why the driver turned and crossed into the eastbound lane.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as 37-year-old Brian French, later died at the hospital according to police.

Those in the school bus -- the driver, a bus monitor and one child -- were sent to local hospitals for minor injuries LMPD said.

Both traffic lanes are closed as the investigation continues police said.
