Pitino opens up on Dan Patrick Show

Pitino appeared on the show Thursday morning and talked about what exactly went on in UofL's Minardi Hall.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- Former UofL head coach Rick Pitino is once again opening up to the media about his dismissal from UofL, the FBI investigation, and what exactly went on in Minardi Hall.

The 20-minute long interview on The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday morning was interesting and at times a bit bizarre as Pitino compared himself to former Dolphins running back Mercury Morris. Morris spent time in prison for cocaine trafficking but was released after being wrongfully accused.

Pitino questioned why the FBI was looking into so-called runners in college basketball, while the country has issues with school shootings, gun violence, and opioid addiction.

He went on to blame businessman John Schnatter, UofL's David Grissom, and members of the UofL board who graduated from UK for rushing to judgment and firing him without hearing all of the facts.

Recently, he has been connected to the University of Rhode Island, but he says there was no truth to the rumors. He did admit that he has spoken to at least one other school about being their head coach.

"I've only been contacted by one school. It was a nice situation and we talked. I met with them. It didn't fit for me, and it didn't fit for them. What I realized is that it's probably not going to work for me in college basketball,” Rick Pitino said.

Pitino told Dan Patrick that this would be the last interview he would do on the matter, that in a few years people would look back and see his side of the story.
