LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — During his press conference to discuss the firing of Bobby Petrino, Louisville AD Vince Tyra said that while he has a shortlist of coaching candidates, his main goal is to get a coach that fits the culture of the University of Louisville.

"You can get wrapped up in the glamour of [a candidate's] resume, but it may not fit what we have here," Tyra said. "You've got to find somebody who I think fits what Louisville represents."

Several fans, and media members, have mentioned Purdue coach Jeff Brohm's name in conversation about a replacement, noting Brohm's ties to the university and the city.

Brohm grew up in Louisville, playing quarterback at Trinity High School before accepting a scholarship at UofL. Brohm led the Cardinals to the Liberty Bowl his senior season, throwing for two touchdowns in the final minute to take home Liberty Bowl MVP.

He coached under Petrino and his successor Steve Kragthorpe from 2003 to 2008. Brohm is in his second season as head coach for the Purdue Boilermakers, who most recently spoiled Ohio State's perfect record in October. Brohm’s current contract is for seven years.

OddsShark released betting odds via MyBookie on who would be the next coach, and Brohm led the list with Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chip Long second. Also listed were Charlie Strong, Ryan Day and Lane Kiffin.

Strong, who coached at Louisville before leaving for Texas, is currently at the University of South Florida, while Lane Kiffin coaches at Florida Atlantic.

Another name being floated around is former LSU coach Les Miles. Miles was fired from LSU in 2016, despite winning records every year he coached, because the team was unable to match more successful SEC schools like Alabama.

Miles has been rumored to be a lead candidate for the Kansas coaching vacancy.

Long, one of the favorites to get the job, has been at Notre Dame since 2017. He was previously at Louisville as a grad assistant from 2006-2007.
