Lorenzo Ward named UofL interim football coach

The associate head coach will take on the role as interim after the University fired Coach Bobby Petrino Sunday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Lorenzo Ward will lead the Cardinals as interim head coach, according to the University of Louisville.

The news comes as the University parted ways with Coach Bobby Petrino following a season many saw as an embarrassment.

This wasn’t the only change that happened on Sunday.

UofL also cut ties with quarterback Coach Nick Petrino, defensive line Coach L.D. Scott, linebackers Coach Ryan Beard and director of operations Andy Wagner.

Ward, an associated head coach, joined the Cardinals staff in 2017 and has 21 years of coaching experience including stints at South Carolina, Fresno State and Virginia Tech.

UofL currently has a 2-8 record and 0-7 record in ACC play.

The Cards take on North Carolina State on Nov. 17.
