Kentucky football to face Penn State in Citrus Bowl

Kentucky will face Penn State in the Citrus Bowl on January 1.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) — Kentucky football is going bowling for the third year in a row. The 9-3 Wildcats will take on Penn State in the Citrus Bowl on January 1. It'll take place in Camping World Stadium at 1 p.m.

Though the team plateaued toward the end of the season, the Wildcats finished strong with a 56-10 win over state rival UofL.

This season is Kentucky's best since Jerry Claiborne led the Cats in 1984. Though the team went to two bowls during Mark Stoops' tenure, a win would be the Wildcats' first bowl win under Stoops.

The Citrus Bowl, one of the oldest non-College Football Playoff bowl games, features a showdown of SEC and Northwestern bowl-eligible teams.
