Texas Tech rolls past Louisville 11-6 to sweep home regional

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Zach Rheams homered twice, including a three-run shot in the first inning, Davis Martin took a shutout into the fifth and host Texas Tech swept the Lubbock Regional, rolling to an 11-6 victory over Louisville on Sunday night.

The Cardinals (45-19) had their five-year streak of reaching a Super Regional stopped as the Red Raiders left little doubt a year after being on the brink of advancing before dropping two straight at home to Sam Houston State.

The No. 9 national seed, Texas Tech (42-17) awaits the winner of the Athens Regional with a chance to host a Super Regional if Georgia doesn't advance. The Red Raiders are seeking their third trip to the College World Series in five seasons.

Rheams had four hits and five RBIs, including an RBI single for a 9-1 lead in the sixth and a solo homer leading off the ninth after Louisville had pulled within 9-6. Cody Farhat homered and drove in three runs for Tech.

Martin (7-5) came out after hitting Josh Stowers with a pitch to lead off the sixth. The junior right-hander allowed five hits and two runs in five innings.

Reid Detmers (4-2) gave up five hits and five runs in two innings, leaving after hitting Rheams with a pitch to put two runners on with no outs in the third.

Jake Snider had a two-run homer for Louisville in the eighth.
