Calipari discusses 'lifetime contract' at Kentucky

He says it’s not a lifetime, but UK officials want him to finish his career at Kentucky, they’ve been working on the details for the past year.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – Basketball season has been over for a few months, but University of Kentucky Coach John Calipari is talking about his future.

During media session on Tuesday, Coach Cal was asked about his lifetime contract, which has not signed yet.

He says it’s not a lifetime, but UK officials want him to finish his career at Kentucky, they’ve been working on the details for the past year.

Calipari says he wasn’t even close to entertaining UCLA’s coaching offer a few months ago.

"For me, everybody would say, 'Why would he ever leave Kentucky for anywhere?' You're right. Why would I? What would lead me, a better situation more committed to basketball? Money? Staff? Tell me why I would do this? 'He's tired of being here. He's tired of the fans.' Really? This is, your whole career you're trying to get to a point where you're at a program where it really matters, and fans are engaged, you never have to sell a ticket, your son does something small and it trends nationally. If I speak, it's like what did I say that they went crazy about? I didn't say – this is the place."

Cal also has two players who have withdrew their names from the NBA Draft.

Forwards Nick Richards and E.J. Montgomery will return to the Cats next season.
