Hey, Governor Matt Bevin.
I’d like to show you a few things here in West Louisville that, obviously will surprise you. After all, you said this about a group from the West End that loves one of the world’s oldest games, “ West Louisville Chess Club, not something you necessarily would have thought of when you think of this section of town.”
Did you know that they also play a great game of tennis at the long-established West Louisville Tennis Club? The organization will celebrate 100 years in 2020.
Home to 6 hard courts and 6 clay courts, maybe in your words, it’s not something you necessarily would have thought of when you think of this section of town.
OR governor, check out the home of Genesis Arts, a school of ballet, teaching the fine graceful art of dance to young folks here in West Louisville.
Or my personal favorite, The Blue House, creating our future violinists on South 28th street, in the heart of, you got it, West Louisville.
You know why I found all of these wonderful venues in west Louisville so easily? Because I expected them to be here. No, I knew they would be here.
So, let’s review your record in West Louisville.
In March of this year you attended a disastrous meeting with West Louisville leaders and an advisor to President Donald trump, and said this, “What breaks my heart is some of what I’m seeing here because for 20 years, I’ve seen this community despite the best desires and intentions, sometimes be its own worst enemy.”
And in June one year ago, you called a meeting here with pastors and others about the horrible violence a told them to pray more. They walked out of your meeting.
Your comments are frightening for a couple of reasons: You appear not to even understand what you said or how it sounded.
No one on your staff, recording your video, stopped you and said, “Hey governor. Whoa! Wait a minute!”
Maybe it's because it's not something you necessarily would have thought of when you think of this section of town.
I welcome your opinions on this commentary. Send me an email: dproffitt@whas11.com
