Three perspectives on the music business in Louisville

Music is not one of the city's big commercial sectors but it's not nothing either.

(Louisville Business First) - If you're paying attention, you know that a lot of great music has come out of the Louisville area in the last decade or so.

Everyone knows My Morning Jacket, but plenty of other artists have achieved national acclaim as well — Bryson Tiller or White Reaper comes to mind; Houndmouth from New Albany just released a new album, too.

Those artists are just a part of a larger music industry that has grown and evolved in Louisville for decades and decades now. Music isn't a huge business in Louisville. You're not going to hear Greater Louisville Inc. talking about it as one of our major industry clusters any time soon.

But it's not nothing either. There are artists here — production companies, studios and labels too. At no time of the year is that more obvious than Forecastle time.

This weekend's Forecastle Festival, which takes place over the next three days at Waterfront Park, will be a place where some parts of that industry can shine. With that in mind, here are three perspectives on the music industry in Louisville.
