If the exhaust silencer fatigues and cracks, the heat shield may not manage the heat, leading to melting or fire.

MEDINA, Minn. - Polaris has recalled about 107,000 recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs) due to a fire hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of the RZR XP 1000 on Monday. They say if the exhaust silencer fatigues and cracks, the heat shield may not manage the heat, leading to melting or fire.

The recall involves 2014-18 Polaris RZR XP 1000 ROVs. The affected model numbers are listed online.

The CPSC says Polaris has received 30 reports of cracked exhaust silencers, including three reports of fires. No injuries have been reported.

Anyone with an affected vehicle should immediately stop riding it, and contact a Polaris dealer for a free repair, according to the CPSC.

Polaris also announced on Monday that it has agreed to pay a $27.25 million settlement to the CPSC as a penalty for two late-reported claims in 2016.
