Ohio Valley Wrestling hosting combine, draft in Louisville

It's the first of its kind - OVW is hosting a professional wrestling combine, and the athletes who get drafted will receive full scholarships.

Have you ever wanted to pursue a career in professional wrestling? Ohio Valley Wrestling, with notable alumni such as John Cena and Brock Lesnar, is hosting the first-ever professional wrestling combine on Saturday, June 1 in Louisville.

The draft is similar to what you would see in the NFL or MLB. Both male and female athletes from across the country will come to compete and have their talents evaluated on a series of metrics, athletics tests, and drills. Professional wrestler Al Snow says that the combine is more than just about the physicality of these athletes.

"It's also a good way to evaluate and judge how much a person has a heart - desire," Snow said. He also said that participants will also take an IQ test and a psychological evaluation.

The 15 athletes with the highest overall scores will be drafted on August 1. They will receive full 2-year scholarships, including tuition and lodging, to the Al Snow Wrestling Academy at Ohio Valley Wrestling.

The combine will take place at the PFR Performance Field House and Gym at 12101 Sycamore Station Pl. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the combine will start at 8:30 a.m.

This brand new event represents a $500,000 investment in the future of professional wrestling. OVW is in the process of becoming the first state-accredited trade school for professional wrestling and sports entertainment broadcasting in the United States.
