LOUISVILLE (LBF) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer is leaving this afternoon for a 10-day trip to India.

The trip is organized by the international Strong Cities Network, of which Louisville is a member. It is funded by the U.S. Embassy in India, according to a news release.

During the trip, Fischer and Tom Tait, mayor of Anaheim, Calif., will meet with government, business, media and thought leaders to discuss approaches to making cities safer and communities stronger amid the rise in violent extremist groups around the world.

Fischer also will speak to members of India’s business community at the Indian Merchant Chamber of Commerce, and he'll meet with industry, interfaith and community leaders at various stops. He also will meet with state and city officials, including the mayor of Mumbai, and will discuss Louisville’s story in interviews with India’s media.
