LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The Louisville Fire Department is crediting working smoke detectors with likely saving a woman’s life Saturday.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 1200 block of Dresden Avenue just before 5:30 p.m.

Investigator say the woman was in an upstairs bedroom where the fire started.

They say it took them less than 10 minutes to control the flames but the homeowner was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation and is expected to be okay.

The department’s arson team is assisting in the investigation but officials don’t think there’s anything suspicious about the fire at this time.

“Anytime we encounter someone who has smoke inhalation or gets hurt from the fire, we have arson come out and investigate,” Major Jason Golladay said.

Investigators say the damage was contained to one bedroom.

No word on what caused the fire.
