LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Months before Kentucky lawmakers head back to Frankfort, a state senator filed legislation concerning storing guns safely.

Senator Gerald Neal, a sponsor of the bill, says it calls for a person to be charged if they store a gun not secured with a trigger lock and can still be accessed by a minor.

The city has seen two recent cases of a three-year-old and a four-year-old accidentally shooting themselves.

The three-year-old injured Sunday night died from his injuries.

Senator Neal wants to prevent future tragedies.
