CORBIN, Ky. (WHAS11) - This town marked the second of our stops for this year's summer road trip series.

CORBIN, KENTUCKY

Main Stops:

1.) Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

2.) Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort

Lunch: Sanders Cafe - home of the original Kentucky Fried Chicken

Here’s a breakdown of our experiences on the road:

Our first adventure stop of the day took us to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. It’s most famous for its waterfall that’s nearly 70 feet tall. It’s known as the Niagara Falls of the South. At night, there are multiple opportunities throughout the year to catch a moonbow. There’s only two of them in the world: Cumberland Falls and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

“It is the only moonbow that’s visible in this hemisphere of the world. You can see the moonbow right below the falls. It’s just a once in a lifetime sight that everybody should see,” Cumberland Falls State Resort Park Park Manager Joe Mounce said.

There are also 12 trails to hike on throughout the park. There’s really a level and distance for everybody. They start as small as a quarter mile and go all the way up to nearly 11 miles.

Our second adventure stop of the day took us to Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort. It offers everything from paddleboards to ziplines to white water rafting.

“One of the things that I think families like best about this area here is just being able to connect with their family and just talk to each other and play games at night and sit around a campfire. We do have Wi-Fi, but people find that they really don’t need it so much,” Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort General Manager Dania Egedi said.

Cost:

If you’d like to test out what we tried for a family of four, it’ll cost you around $92.

Our lunch stop took us to Sanders Café, which is home to the original Kentucky Fried Chicken. Inside, you’ll find tons of artifacts from the franchise’s history and see the kitchen where Colonel Sanders created his famous recipe.

“A tour of the museum is free. You even get free advice,” Sanders Café General Manager Dennis Overbey said.

We tried the original fried chicken platter as well as the Nashville-style hot chicken platter. Both came with a biscuit and mashed potatoes and gravy.
