Secretariat horseshoe up for auction

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – He was known affectionately as “Big Red” – Secretariat, whose Derby time of 1:59:04, is still the fastest ever.

In 1973, he became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, winning the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths.

The public will now have the chance to own one of the horseshoes worn by the racing great.

Memorabilia website, Lelands, is auctioning the horseshoe and the current bid is already more than $19,000.

The horseshoe will be up on the website until Aug. 17.
