Police arrest man after 2 dead, 2 wounded in Elizabethtown

As of this time, police believe Peeler acted alone and are not searching for any other suspects.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — Police have arrested a man who was identified as Shadrach Peeler after two people were found dead late Thursday night, Feb. 21.  

The 911 calls came in a little before midnight near the 200 block of Warfield Street. Police received reports of shots fired. Once on scene, more 911 calls came in reporting shots were fired near the 600 block of North Miles Street.

Two male gunshot victims were found inside the T-Mart gas station located at 600 North Miles Street. Subash Ghale, 40, was found dead inside the store, and Prayash Baniya, 31, was found critically injured.

Another gunshot victim, Nadia Brown,34, fled the area and called 911 from a nearby park. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Officers were able to locate the shooter, Peeler, still armed with a handgun, in the 200 block of Warfield Street. The suspect fought with police and dropped his handgun before he was taken into custody. According to a police report, Peeler had to be subdued by multiple officers. 

Officers also found the body of a fourth victim, Cherie Turner, 34, lying between two houses in the 200 block of Warfield Street. 

According to the police, Peeler did live at a residence on Warfield Street with the fourth victim. 

Police said they are still investigating the suspect's connection to the other victims.

"We are proud of the Elizabethtown Police Department’s swift and courageous response," Mayor Jeff Gregory said in a release. "The sacrifice that the men and women of EPD make on a daily basis to protect our community cannot be overstated."

As of this time, police believe Peeler acted alone and are not searching for any other suspects.

Peeler is charged with murder, assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, resisting arrest, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
