Remembering Phyllis George | Memorial service held for Kentucky’s former first lady

George died May 14 at the University of a Kentucky Medical Center of a blood disorder. She was 70 years old.

VERSAILLES, Ky. — Over the weekend, a visitation was held for Phyllis George, the former First Lady of Kentucky, at the Kentucky Castle.

George died May 14 at the University of a Kentucky Medical Center of a blood disorder. She was 70 years old.

Before her time as First Lady, George had also been crowned Miss America was a pioneer in sports broadcasting, becoming one of the first women to host NFL Today, a pre-game show in 1975.

According to her children, "anyone who has known Phyllis, Lincoln or Pamela through the years" was welcome to attend her visitation. They also said all contributions will be directed to causes most important to George.

Kentucky Governor Beshear also announced a private memorial service of around 40 people will be held at the Capitol to remember George.
