LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – It was a call to action by a local organization to help improve the community – gently worn shoes in exchange for admittance into a basketball clinic.

The idea originated from two coaches, David Wright Jr. and Julio Anthony, to not charge families or children for the clinic but instead have them bring shoes for the less fortunate.

That’s all it took for Kentucky Ambition to gather more than 150 pairs of shoes for children and families in the community.

Kentucky Ambition is a local non-profit that teaches local youth the fundamentals of basketball and the importance of helping each other.

"They'll be able to take whatever they've learned here out into the field of whatever their choice is after the life of basketball," Anthony said.

All the shoes will be given to Wayside Christian Ministries who says the shoes are in high demand this winter.
