LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11)-- All of the tickets for Muhammad Ali's June 10 memorial service were gone before 9:30 a.m.
Fifteen thousand tickets were gone in one hour and 10 minutes.
The KFC Yum Center opened the doors more than 90 minutes before originally scheduled to do so.
The decision to open early came as a surprise to many people who had been waiting in line since Tuesday night. Officials had planned not to release tickets until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
One facility official said the decision to hand out tickets early was in part because of the large crowd that had gathered along Main Street. The official did not elaborate on other factors for the decision.
Louisville Metro Police had extra units for security and crowd control Wednesday morning. There were reports of police having to call in additional help.
Tickets are still available for the Jenazah prayer service at Freedom Hall on Thursday.
