LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – JCPS and JCTA are still unable to come to an agreement on salaries and contracts.

In July, JCTA filed a lawsuit against the school district, claiming a salary freeze violates their contract agreement.

The union said many teachers are concerned that their years of experience are not being credited to them in correlation to the salary schedule.

“We certainly value our employees and value competitive salaries, so we feel like we've offered a step increase plus tried to get some other things like support for our National Board Certified teachers to help get high-needs area teachers into our district,” said Superintendent Dr. Donna Hargens.

JCTA President Brent McKim released a statement saying that they have not needed a third-party negotiator for probably 20 years.

“This further undermines teacher morale and trust. It is unfortunate that the district broke off negotiations and called for mediation just at the beginning of the new academic year when we should be focusing on the start of school,” McKim said.
