LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The moving business has been steady but a bit slower this spring than normal.
“It’s definitely not where we normally are this time of year,” said Cardinal Moving Director of Operations Brent Carneal.
Carneal attributes that to the pandemic and its effect on the economy.
“There are a lot of people not working,” Carneal said. “I think those people are, one, trying to save money by doing it themselves.”
And two, they might be waiting to make a move until things are a little bit more normal.
“Especially first-time home buyers and people who are looking to move into their forever home, say ‘Should we save our money? Should we go ahead and take that step?’ That type of thing. I definitely think it’s affecting our business,” Carneal said.
When they are working, Cardinal Moving is taking precautions to make its workers and customers as safe as possible.
First, they go over a checklist from the CDC with customers before confirming a move. When movers enter a home, they are prepared.
“Our guys are provided gloves, hand sanitizer, cleaning products, masks, things of that nature to make sure they are as safe as possible entering that customers home,” Carneal said.
Even when restrictions ease, Carneal doesn’t think much will change for them. He says more sanitizing is never a bad thing, and that’ll continue even when the virus is gone.
“I think that we’re going to continue on with what we’ve been doing,” Carneal said. “I don’t think that...when the restrictions stop it’s going to completely stop for us.”
