JCPS: Moore High School Principal to take over at Iroquois High

JCPS spokesperson Renee Murphy says current Iroquois High School Principal Clay Holbrook will be the Phoenix School of Discovery's Assistant Principal.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Moore High School principal Rob Fulk will take over as principal of Iroquois High School starting December 5th. Current Iroquois Principal Clay Holbrook will move over to the Phoenix School of Discovery as their Assistant Principal.

JCPS spokesperson Renee Murphy says the change is voluntary and Fulk has been expressing interest in the opportunity.

"We believe and support Rob Fulk. We believe that he will be a great leader and be a great asset to the Iroquois family. His energy and excitement and enthusiasm already has been evident in the conversations I've had with him. We think that he is the right person at the right time to lead this work at Iroquois," Murphy said.

The reassignment comes amidst a string of violence at Iroquois High School. A 14-year-old student was arrested after a fight with a teacher. A video of that incident went viral on social media. A high schooler was left beaten and unconscious in a bathroom and another student was arrested with second degree assault. The principal was also hit while trying to break up a fight between a group of students.

In letters to families, both Fulk and Holbrook said their decisions did not come easy.

"His decision comes from a desire to continue the work of developing schools where students can be a part of a great education and building the community of our city," Fulk said.

"He says "His time at Iroquois has been invaluable. He did not make the decision to take on this new role without careful consideration and thought," Holbrook.

In the tweet, Fulk expressed his appreciation of Moore.

"Moore is on a great path forward, with absolutely no limit to what can be accomplished on this campus. I am extremely proud of the students and the growth they have shown," Fulk said.

JCPS spokesperson Renee Murphy says current Iroquois High School Principal Clay Holbrook will be reassigned to an administrative position within the district.

This change to Iroquois comes on the heels of a string of incidents at the high school. Some of the recent incidents include a student being arrested for assault and a fight between a student and teacher.
