Missing boater's body recovered downstream from Sherman Minton bridge

Donald Watson’s body was located by his friends just downstream of the Sherman Minton Bridge according to Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The body of a missing boater has been recovered after a boat crash on the Ohio River on July 1.

Around 4:30 p.m. on July 3, Donald Watson’s body was located by his friends just downstream of the Sherman Minton Bridge, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck. Watson’s friends were helping officers search when his body was discovered. Officers retrieved his body.

Watson failed to resurface after the boat he was riding in crashed into the upper gates of the McAlpine Dam, which is a restricted area. The boat's engine malfunctioned near the dam. Watson and the boat’s operator, Levell Washington, were thrown from the boat sucked through the dam.

Washington was able to call 911 for help after the accident, and officers from multiple agencies responded, searching for Watson.
